Not only is Slap-Penz convenient and practical, the company also gives back.  With every purchase you make of the Slap-Penz, you will also be donating 10% of the total sale to 1 of 3 charities; Pink Ribbon International (supports breast cancer awareness and research), Reading is Fundamental (supports childhood literacy) or Children's Healthcare of Atlanta (not for profit hospital for children).  It's another way of Slap-Penz making it happen not just for you, but for the community as well!

PREVENTATIVE CARE

As the weather slowly begins to warm up and March Madness gets under way, the more likely you’ll see a rise in injuries.  Going into the month of March Althea Medical Group’s focus is to aid in preventative care.  We understand that injuries are inevitable, but we want to make it a little easier on our clients’ wallets by offering discounted pricing on all of our orthopedic braces this month.  Having the proper brace or support is sometimes, half the battle.  Whether your injury ranges from an ankle sprain or a strained back we have the brace and supports you are looking for.  Each week this month we will highlight a particular brace or support for the ankle, knee, back and wrist.

This week we are highlighting AMG’s Ankle Brace AK-016, which is a slip on brace with laces and a figure ‘8’ support strap providing increased stability and maximum protection.  This is one of our most popular braces because of its contoured design and open heel giving a snug and comfortable fit.  The AK-016 model has a low profile allowing it to fit comfortably into shoes.  It is made of lightweight nylon fabric and mesh for breathability and is machine washable.  This brace aids in keeping the foot and ankle in a neutral position preventing and treating ankle sprains.  To ensure optimum performance and support when wearing this brace, thighten the figure '8' strap from a seated position with your foot on the floor.

Regardless of all your best efforts with preventative care, injuries are bound to happen, but Althea Medical Group is here to help make your recovery a little less painful.

The Benefits of Electrotherapy

Electrotherapy, also known as electrical stimulation therapy, is used to relieve muscle pain, reduce muscle recovery time and speed the healing process, which is another form of physical therapy.  Electrotherapy can be administered by a professional or through a portable machine called a TENS unit (transcutanous electrical nerve stimulation), EMS unit (electrical muscle stimulation) and MENS unit (mircrocurrent electrical neuromuscular stimulator), which are the three types of electrotherapy.
A TENS unit is a non-invasive, low-risk electrical current stimulation intended to reduce acute and chronic muscle pain.  It covers the complete range of transcutaneously applied currents used for nerve excitation through high frequency with low intensity or low frequency with high intensity.
An EMS unit uses electric impulses to mimic that of the central nervous system, causing the muscles to contract.   This unit has been used as a strength training tool for healthy patients and athletes alike and a complementary technique for sports training.  It’s also been helpful as a rehabilitation and preventative tool for partially or immobilized patients.
A MENS unit sends extremely small, less than 1 milliamp, electrical currents into the body.  This unit is used to increase the speed of healing wounds, age-related macular degeneration, tendon repair and ruptured ligament recovery and is widely used by professional athletes.
Whatever your ailment electrical stimulation’s key benefit is to relieve pain, speed healing and increase strength whether you are the average person or professional athlete that physical therapy cannot do alone.
Visit our website to order a TENS, EMS or MENS unit today!

New Year’s Resolutions, we all make them, but do we all succeed?  It’s 2013, but are you starting your year with your failed resolutions from 2012?  Whatever your resolutions may be, financial success or freedom, weight loss, self discipline or starting a company you’ve been dragging your feet on, this can be your year to achieve your goals!  It’s a new year and it can be a new you!

Our advice for achieving your resolution is taking baby steps to get there.  If you plan to have financial success or freedom, read up on financial websites or visit the library and check out a few financial books to help you get a game plan together of how you are going to increase your overall financial well being.  From there, start taking your lunch to work a few times a week or carpool, take small steps to start cutting expenses.  If you plan to lose weight without starving yourself, make small adjustments every day with what you eat and how long you plan to exercise each day or every other day.

Having a plan of how you are going to do it, will help.  Once you write down your plan, make a few copies of it and keep it on your desk, in your wallet, in your car or in the bathroom.  If you have it with you at all times it will be a constant reminder of what you are working towards.  With any goal you choose, realize that it’s going to take time to get there; overnight success will only lead to failure.  Time and work are the hardest parts of achieving any resolution, but if you stay focused on the prize it will help keep you on track for what you want most in your life for 2013.  Remember, it’s a New Year and it CAN be a New You!

What is Chiropractic Care?

Chiropractic Care is mainly used to treat disorders of the musculoskeletal system and the nervous system, which range from back pain, neck pain, headaches and pain in the joints of the arms or legs.  Doctors of Chiropractic, practice a drug-free hands-on approach to health care that includes patient examination, diagnosis and treatment.  With a complete understanding of your disorder, you’re ready for a chiropractic adjustment, clinically known as spinal manipulation.  This is when the doctor will apply a controlled force into joints that have restricted movement to restore joint mobility.  Continued visits to a chiropractor help retrain the supporting muscles and ligaments of your spine and alleviate further pain or discomfort. Chiropractors have broad diagnostic skills and are also trained to recommend therapeutic and rehabilitative exercises, as well as to provide nutritional, dietary and lifestyle counseling.

Call your local chiropractor to schedule an examination and to jump start your road to better health, naturally.
